Azul Macaubas
The Azul Macaubas is originally a quartz-rich sandstone, which has over the years converted heat and pressure to form a new rock; a quartzite with completely different properties. The mining sites are located west of the city of Macaubas in the state of Bahia; the deposit extends over a length of 30 km, although not all areas are minable.
In addition to the main component of quartz, there is the presence of dumortierite, a rare blue-colored mineral with a purple variant that has the characteristic of presenting itself as a set of needles or fibrous masses; this mineral is composed of a borosilicate of aluminum and iron; thus we speak in a petrographic sense of a dumortierite quartzite.
Typically, natural stone contains the average values of 80% quartz , 15% dumortierite and up to 5% muscovite. Azul Macaubas is a very famous natural quartzite and is appreciated all over the world because of its special characteristics and shades. It is non-uniform in color, but evenly shaded in various shades of blue and azure, from the most delicate to the most fascinating and deep tones; making it one of the most exclusive materials in the world. Due to the great variety of dumortierite present in Azul Macaubas, some gold or beige veins or veins tending to purplish can be found from time to time, which are an added structural feature.
This marble is characterized by great durability and strength, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. Possible applications include flooring, stairs, tables, sinks, kitchen countertops, shower trays, decorations, and general cladding.
